The approach used is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which, unlike other forms of psychotherapy, primarily focuses on the present. The therapy is oriented toward solving current problems while also reconstructing the person's developmental history to gain a comprehensive understanding of their difficulties.
Patients learn specific coping skills that they can continue to use afterward. These skills involve identifying dysfunctional thought patterns, modifying irrational beliefs, and changing maladaptive behaviors. Additionally, CBT is based on experimental research and a scientific method, with its effectiveness in treating various psychological disorders empirically validated.
It is an active and participatory therapy, adapted for both individual and couples treatment.
Therapy is typically short-term. The therapist adopts a collaborative style and actively takes on the role of a “knowledgeable guide” in a journey of self-discovery and awareness, fostering changes and improvements in the management of the issues initially brought to therapy. The goal of therapy is to modify what the underlying theory defines as distorted thoughts, dysfunctional emotions, and maladaptive behaviors, ultimately facilitating symptom relief and psychological well-being.
Sessions can be conducted in English and French upon request.
